Tomorrow Big Day

Tomorrow looks to be a good day and potentially very dangerous across the Southern Plains. My gear is packed and ready to load up. Current target is Perry, OK. That could change in the morning, but I will be playing the dryline in NC Oklahoma. With storm speeds so fast (45mph or more) I want to get out in front and watch them go by. I will be meeting my friend David in Perry and we will refine the target from there. Hoping to be in position around 4pm.

We will see what the morning brings. Latest NAM is off the chart all across Central Oklahoma into NE OK. In the morning I will look at where the Dryline is and the new model data. As well as the location of moisture. Currently 70dews are in S. Texas moving rather quickly North. Also with morning cloud cover it will complicate the picture. Will be looking at the Satellite and NWS page frequently.

Busted - April 6th

I left OKC about 4pm and headed to the North. I ended up just North of Crescent, sitting at the intersection of SH 51 and SH 74. It was a great spot I could see in all directions. To the North storms were firing in Kansas, but I knew they were too far away for me to catch up to.

I sat there for a little bit and another car pulled up. They were chasers as well and we talked for a while. Great guys and enjoyed their company. Watch some cumulus start to pop, but the cap was still too strong. They would go up and then quickly fizzle.

Sat there until sunset and decided to head home. Storms started firing after dark and moved through the Metro around 10:30. Lots of lightning and small pea sized hail.

All in all not a terrible day. I know, while chasing I didn't even see a drop of rain, but I enjoyed just sitting there and talking. I did get a nice shot of the sunset. I will upload it when I get home.

Looks like Monday and/or Tuesday may be another chance to chase.

First Day of Spring

The first day of Spring arrive with snow and a cold front here in Central Oklahoma. Beautiful flowers were soon covered with an inch or so of snow. The Blizzard that was predicted wasn't nearly as bad as most thought.

As Spring arrives I'm hoping to get out and chase some Severe Weather very soon. I missed the recent storms in Western OK due to prior engagements, but more opportunities are right around the corner.

The amount of moisture that has fallen in Texas and Oklahoma will certainly help Storm Development throughout the season. This could mean a very active season and I look forward to that. Check back for more updates soon.

Moon Halo

Looked outside this evening and saw this. An amazing sight caused by ice crystals in the atmosphere. Hope you enjoy.

Grassfire

This is a grassfire in SE Oklahoma City. I happened to be coming back from the National Weather Festival and saw the smoke. Stopped by and got some video. Low Humidity and High Winds contributed to the spread of the fire. 15 acres were burned and no structures were damaged.

Current Conditions

Here are the current clouds over Oklahoma City as of 8:00PM. It looks beautiful. Have had a few Tornado Warnings in Northern Oklahoma and a reported landspout in Fay, OK.

Might get some action after dark around here. Will keep you up to date.

Edit: Tornado Warning was issued for Oklahoma County. Rotation was 2 miles to my west. I couldn't see anything due to it being after dark, even with the lightning. Spotters reported a lowering, but no tornadoes at this time. Storms passed through the area and are now South of the Metro.

Yesterday

Just wanted to upload a pic from yesterday. This is the view looking west from OKC. I didn't get a chance to chase yesterday or the last few days. School is almost over so I should be getting out more.
Got some new video and photography equipment. Some pics to come of the new stuff loaded up in the truck.
